Intergenerational Programme Resources for Schools

I Wish I'd Asked would like to share some of their intergenerational programme resources for schools with the community, to show how this learning programme could be incorporated into a school curriculum.

Pre-Interview Worksheet

This is a simple question sheet which the students can use at their first conversation session, to record some of the important details of their Silver Warrior. It serves as a record to remind them about their buddy for their next visit.

Sample Questions for Students

Students can use these questions to stimulate discussion with their senior buddy. They serve as a guide to begin the conversation. Students can tailor questions to suit their context.

Capturing Veterans’ Stories

Students can use these questions to stimulate discussion with their senior buddy. They are targeted to RSL Veterans and serve as a guide to begin the conversation. Students can tailor questions to suit their context.

Post-Interview Worksheet

This worksheet is a very useful tool to encourage reflection by the students, after they have had a conversation with their senior buddy. It helps focus their attention on how the session progressed and in what ways they could improve it.

Integration Into Art

Depending on the students who are involved in the project, outcomes can be altered. Most of these activities are appropriate for students who have had some experience in the Adobe Suite, preferably Photoshop and / or illustrator.

Italian Language Activities

Our programme can provide the opportunity to integrate our activities into Italian Language subjects, either by students participating in a cooking class or through the process of conducting interviews with our Italian Seniors.

Curriculum Alignments

The activities outlined in our resources section can be aligned with a number of different parts of the school curriculum from English subjects through to Arts and more creative subjects.

Oral and Written Activities

These activities are a few engaging ideas for use within the Language Curriculum – English – Oral and Written. Intergenerational conversations can be integrated across all aspects of the curriculum.

Intergenerational Benefits

There are many benefits to both generations in having the opportunity to connect with each other. This document gives an outline to schools and community organisations, of the benefits that can be gained from intergenerational connection and learning.
